Only in November '97 I began to collect informations about my ancestors. On this page I already summarized my first results. Meanwhile 126 direct ancestors are specified. Among them a part out of a small booklet of the Meyer zum Vorwalde family.

It is conspicuous, that apparently there was not attached very much importance to the exact ways of writing. On the other hand mistakes obviously happened by translating the Wendish names to German and some persons purposely had changed their writing, to make a difference to their siblings. Thus there are different ways of writing for the same persons in different sources.

Concerning my surname "SYMMANK" the second "M" crept in with my greatgrandfather by a mistake of a registrar. Of preceding generations the surname was written with only one "M".

My oldest ancestor of the Symmank-line is George Symank married with Christiane Schulze. Until now only few descendants are known.

At the moment five families named Sy-i-m(m)ank are known, that emigrated in the 19. century into the USA. Besides during this time also one family named Neitsch emigrated, that descend from a family named Symank.
Actually, no connection to my my family could be found.

The name "SYMMANK" has its origin in the Sorbian language:
- The english translation of the name means something like "little Simon".

The Sorbs are a small slavonic race, which had settled in the Lausitz and along the Spree.
